Beskydy are formed by several
mountainous formations at the east tip of Moravia at the Slovak
and Polish border, not making up the compact mountain whole.
The meeting of several nations
culture has impressed unreproductable atmosphere expressing itself in
architectural picturesque ness of the original wooden constructions that
we know rather from
the inland open air museums.
Many of the peaks are above
1000 m; the highest one is Lysa hora (1323 m). This fact contributes to
local very good snow conditions. The continuous snow cover lasts on the
ridges for 150 to 180 days. Its average height is 120-190 cm and thus
creating good conditions for winter sports in the whole area.
There are opportunities in Beskydy mountains
for downhill and cross - country fans, lovers of tourist trips and ski
jumps. Attractive centers are Lysa hora for its downhill terrains, and one
of the oldest centers Pustevny - Radhost offering not only very good
downhill tracks with necessary ski lifts and other facilities, cross
country courses, but also unique rustic constructions. Important ski jump
centre Frenstat pod Radhostem with several ski jumps with artificial cover
is the annual date for the world top ski jumpers at the beginning of the
winter season. Those who prefer winter holidays spent rather quietly in
the nature to struggle for the places on the downhill course, queue for
the ski lifts or in the cross-country track, will find plenty of suitable
opportunities how to spend the free time according to their dreams.
