Panama Pearl Islands, Contadora Island
Contadora Island - One of the many Panama Islands. As a kid I heard a lot about Panama. Caribbean Sea, pirates, buccaneers, treasures. Even my grandmother had the poster of Panama at her place, but I never really knew where it was until I got older. Living in Czechoslovakia, it was on the other end of the world. I had to find out more. My chance came in 2001,now living in Barrie Ontario Canada when my brother and I, were looking for a vacation in some different place. That’s when we came across Contadora Island.
When we got there we were kind of disappointed. The location of the Resort is outstanding, but it appeared to be neglected. The beautiful white beach with clear turquoise calm waters, good food and friendly staff somehow did make up for it. There were only about twenty five of us in all of the resort, but it could be on the account of being it shortly after 9.11.2001. We had rain every day around four in the afternoon, but it only lasted about twenty minutes and it was warm tropical rain. The small zoo is a delight and great for the kids. There was casino at this resort as stated, but it was closed, the golf course was fun (not really looked after), but just for the amateurs like us. I went to disco one night, with big puddle in the middle of the floor from afternoon rain since the roof was leaking. Not many people there. Contadora island is not very big, you can walk around it in a few hours, but there are some shops, different restaurants and beaches including one with a nude beach sunbathing section. There are some nice houses to see there, the island also housed the deposed Shah of Iran and his family. We took a tour to Panama City, about fifteen to twenty minutes flight on the small plane, which I would recommend. Over all Contadora Resort isn’t for someone who is looking for a lot of exciting night life, but if you are looking for one of the great Panama beaches, swimming, and peace and quiet then Contadora Panama is the place to be.
