Krkonose is the highest and
most frequently visited mountain range in the Czech Republic. The
natural relief and vegetation cover alternating with bare plains creates
many suitable ski terrains both for downhill and classic events, for
demanding skiers, for those who are not so capable and for the beginners.
The mountain range is formed by several mountain ridges with main ski
centers. It is interlaced with marked and maintained trails, connecting
the peaks and Individual resident places and accommodation facilities
spread over the whole region. These trails offer inexhaustible number of
combinations according to the number of kilometers, differences in
elevation and ability demands.
Vrchlabi museum
and Informational Center for the whole area, is considered to
 be
the gate to Krkonose. The mountain centers are situated mainly between the
mountain ridges, the main are Harrachov with nearby Rokytnice in the west,
Spindleruv Mlyn in the middle and Pec pod Snezkou and Janske Lazne in the
east. They are forming natural inclining places with good sporting,
technical, cultural and social
facilities and large accommodation and catering capacities both for
demanding and modest visitors. There are downhill race courses, many
cableways and ski lifts, cross-country tracks and terrains for other
winter sports concentrated around them and they became the setting-off
points for the hikes. Also well organized ski training schools for
children and adults naturally take place here. The safe movement in the
mountains according to one’s wishes and interest by using any of nice
trails running out from and drawing the circles around the main centers is
enabled by thoroughly informed centers and maintained signs in the whole
area.

This
mountain range is also annual scene of
the World Cup competitions and other downhill, cross-country, ski jump and
ski bob events with international attendance that are thrilling and
interesting spectacle for the fans. Those, loving the close connection
with the nature, can use the opportunity to live in any of numerous
mountain cottages or hotels situated directly on routes,
moun tain
slopes or loots.
