Review of Club Amigo Mayanabo Santa Lucia, January 2005. My buddy James doesn’t like winters in Canada, just like me. Probably even more (now he lives in Panama), and since I was telling him how much I like Cuba we book the trip (for me, back) to Mayanabo Santa Lucia. Since last time I was there in 2000, they fix the place a bit, built a new bar and rearrange few things around. Beside that all was the same. Evening shows, friendly staff, clean room, nice beach and sun. I was little disappointed because in all of the Santa Lucia there was no scooters to be rented. When I was talking to one my Cuban friends, he told me, that one day government just came and took it all away. Safety issue of some kind. We have rented our self horse and buggy, and same driver drove us around most of the week for a reasonable price. After we met a few Cuban friends, we had visited their houses and few of the local discos and cantinas. Also had beef dinner at my favorite Coco beach bar, and restaurant. Meat was little tough, but the price was right, and together with bottle of vine and entertainment from their musicians it was fun. There must be something wrong with Cuban time, because as always it went way too fast. That is the only thing my buddy complained about on the way back to Barrie, nothing else. |
