Orlicke
Mountains rank among the smallish Czech
mountain ranges.
They form relatively undivided
territory with one mountain ridge 50 km long. The altitude of peaks
oscillates around 1000 m and rather small differences in elevation within
the whole ridge provide good conditions for ski tourism and in some places
also opportunities for downhill skiing. The main centers have natural
conditions both for alpine and classic skiing and ski tourism.
The biggest center is Destne
with downhill courses and routes for winter hiking in its surroundings.
The advantage is the road from
the saddle to the parking place enabling comfortable entrance to sporting
facilities. The annual international pupils Skiintekriterium downhill
skiing competition takes place in Ricky, situated in the heart of wooded
peaks. Besides the race course there are tourist downhill courses,
standard cross-country courses, ski jump and from the peaks it is possible
to enter the mountains main line. There are Cenkovice on the
eastern part of the range with downhill, cross-country and tourist
terrains. Orlicke Hory are the scene of regular international
competitions of World Cup of Skid bobber in all events.
