My first trip was to Santa Lucia, Club Amigo Mayanabo, November 2000. I had to get away. Alone, quiet vacation, travel single. I had brought two books with me; never even open them. At Camaguey airport I had met a few other tourists from Canada, and after we got to our resort, couple of guys from England and we had spent most of the week together. Great people, one big party. Went to discos, rented scooters and cruise around including shopping and a few trips to near by Coco beach. We even rented couple of cars and one day went to Camaguey city on our own. Well, we had Isabelle with us, who was part of our group, and who is from Camaguey, but live in Ontario. On the way back we made side tour to Nuevitas to see local festival, where we mingled with Cubans, ate some snacks and had couple of beers.. I even managed to get speeding ticket from very friendly Cuban policeman, who pulled me over twice for speeding and didn't charge me until second time. "$10". No I didn't have to pay him. Rental agencies got the money. Santa Lucia is not very big or busy place, but very friendly and unspoiled by mass tourism. All together it was great vacation. That's why, I keep coming back, like I did in 2004 and 2005.

If you drive around Cuba, be very careful. You got people, animals and other
drivers all over. And the roads aren't very good. The picture on the right, on
the way back to Mayanabo, all of the sudden, we
were surrounded by hundreds of cows. And you can't get much beef in Cuba?
But, when we got back to Santa Lucia, Mayanabo, we had our preordered Lobster
dinner from local fisherman waiting for us. Cheap, $7 a person.
