Wednesday, we
finally got the good news. The radiator was coming in. Of course by the
time it got to Rapid City
and was installed it was four in the afternoon.
But we could still make it to
California by Friday noon. We had decided to
drive steady all the way thru, taking turns driving with another member of
the family keeping company to the driver. I was first to drive with my
stepdaughter beside me, while my son and my wife getting some sleep.
All was fine until around ten at night when the lights started to dim and
motor home loosing power. Pretty scary in the middle of Wyoming, with
nothing around. Luckily we could see a light in the
field and when we got there were two guys doing some work on the pick up
truck. One of them was the owner of the “4W - RANCH campground”, just
around the corner. They were very helpful and again I would like to thank
them. They helped us to get the motor home in and after hooking up the
battery charger we went to sleep. Next morning we drove to Cheyenne, and
after big confusion trying to find the train station in the city (that
time there wasn’t any), my wife and stepdaughter got on the bus and my son
and I found the automotive store, got
new set of alternator brushes for
around $10-$20, replaced the old ones and our
problem was fixed. Because of this, again we had lost some of our valuable
time, driving just as far as Rock Springs in western Wyoming where we camped in another KOA
campground. Still about 300 miles that day, not too bad with all the
confusions and problems. Just in case you need to know population Wyoming 2006 estimate 515004.
